EVENTYRSØPPEL

Spirit of the Garbage

Eventyrsøppel /Spirit of the Garbage was produced in the centre of Oslo in Norway in December 2006. Reuse materials and garbage formed the material basis for the installation. The starting point was an open workshop where the audience was to create their ” worlds” in boxes that where monted as walls between the columns of the pavilion. The center of the installation was a 3-dimentional form, built up by formations in colored reusable plastic deliverd for Veolia Environnement in Oslo, Norway.

During a weekend the public interacted in creating an installation of 200 boxes where they used recycled materials to make a scene or a world within the space of a bottle cage. These were built as walls within the music pavilion next to the National Theatre. The finished installation was exhibited for another seven days to be viewed by the public. The project was covered by most Norwegian media (i.e. NRK TV, NRK Radio 2, Dagsavisen, Aftenposten etc.)

Around 50 000 people visited the installation during the 10 days the Spirit of the Garbage was installed on the music pavillion in Oslo.

The centrepiece of the installation was a three dimensional shape made out of recycled plastic from Veolia Miljo Norway,in different bright colors. This art piece was created by Annette Martens and Maria Frantzsen who was participating in this project in Oslo.

Sound installation

The composer Erik Wøllo has made a sound piece which was going along with the project. The composition is inspired by the sounds in the materials used for the art project. The sound picture was to follow the process and accompany the finished result. Our experience was that by playing on different senses the public had a quite intense experience of the project.
